Chavo is a Nike Mercurial Soccer Concept designed to redesign a Mercurial model.
Throughout this design process, I wanted to explore a way to create a new concept that celebrates the Hispanic and Latino influence in the current state of soccer.
With rising tensions in the U.S., it is important to step back and bring something that makes people feel like they belong. This particular design aims to bring a sense of nostalgia from a beloved Mexican TV show, “EL Chavo Del Ocho”
CONCEPT 1 - CHAVO
INSPIRATION BEHIND CONCEPT 1
Using nostalgia as a means to bring people together is one of the goals of this concept. Had interviews with the Hispanic demographic and consistently heard the mention of “El Chavo Del Ocho” as something they used to watch when they were younger.
This was a Mexican TV show that I as with many people have fond memories of. Creating something that followed a modern version of the iconic references made in the show is a goal.

CONCEPT 2- ULLAMALIZTLI
Working on increasing slight width to upper to help with comfort of cleats. Adding grip to inside of cleat sock would help with lockdown
INSPIRATION BEHIND CONCEPT 2
Created for the celebration and influence of the hispanic/latino game. A cleat representing of modern design with small hints of aztec/mayan roots of what the early beginnings of soccer use to be. The notion of team sport was created through Ōllamaliztli sport as one of the earliest ball sports in history.
I wanted to create a minimal design that plays into the goal of the sport. You would get an automatic win if you scored the heavy rubber ball through the hoop and I wanted the swoosh to symbolize a ball going through the hoop.

Royal is a Nike Tiempo Soccer Concept designed to redesign a traditional Tiempo model. Tiempo is one of Nike’s biggest and most iconic soccer cleats. From Ronaldinho to Virgil Van Dijk.
Throughout this design process, keeping the original silhouette while adding a taste of modernism was key. I wanted to explore a way to create a new concept while keeping major features of what makes the Nike Tiempo one of a kind.

PRACTICE BASED RESEARCH
Players feel that the lockdown of cleats isn’t enough and are cutting their socks to add a grip-specific sock. This creates an opportunity to add something on the interior of boots to give players a sense of comfort and security.
